Weight loss

Overweight Health Concerns:

The excess of body fat is what defines the term obesity. Being 20 percent over the normal weight for his or her age, sex, build, and height is considered obese. When a person remains within the acceptable range, their weight is considered healthy. The pattern of fat distribution must not place a person at increased risk for various diseases. How much we weigh is only part of the equation. The factor to consider, even more important than weight , is the percentage of fat in the body.

weight-loss

Our bodies have 30-40 billion fat cells. The extra calories we eat and that we don’t need for immediate energy, are stored as fat. Fat has a tendency as it accumulates, to crowd the space occupied by the internal organs. Being overweight – even moderately – puts an unneeded stress on the back, legs, and internal organs, which in turn can eventually lead to many physical problems and compromise health. Overweight increases the body’s resistance to insulin and susceptibility to infection and puts a person at higher risk for developing coronary artery disease, diabetes, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, stroke, and other serious health issues that can lead to premature death. Obesity causes psychological suffering in people as well as physical concerns, since our society tends to equate beauty, intelligence, and even success with thinness.

Poor diet and bad eating habits along with a lack of exercise are the most common causes of obesity. However other factors that can lead to obesity include glandular malfunctions, diabetes, hypoglycemia, emotional tension, boredom and a simple love of food. Food sensitivities and /or allergies have also been linked to obesity. When the body ingests food it cannot use, it is stored in the tissues and causes water retention. Surprisingly, poor nutrition may be an important factor in obesity. When the body has inadequate intake of certain essential nutrients, fat is not easily or adequately assimilated and can accumulate in the body.
