Harpagophytum procumbens, commonly known as devil’s claw, originates in southern
Africa, particularly Namibia and Botswana. Its colloquial name, devil’s claw, is due to the
fact that its fruits are covered by small protuberances that look like claws.
This plant has been traditionally used for centuries to treat a broad range of ailments: as an
analgesic, as a treatment for complications in pregnancy, as a pomade for skin conditions,
as an infusion to combat blood-borne infections, as an anti-inflammatory treatment against
musculoskeletal and rheumatic pain.
Devil’s claw was introduced to the West in the 1920s when a German farmer living in
Namibia brought some back with him to study in Europe. Since then, harpagophytum has
received considerable attention, and it can be found today in a number of herbal preparations and as an adjuvant therapy for degenerative joint diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
Medicinal ingredients:
Devil’s claw (extract ratio 4:1) (Harpagophytum procumbens) (secondary root tubers) quantity equivalent to 1 600 mg of devil’s claw 400 mg
Non-medicinal ingredients:
Hypromellose
Recommended dosage:
Adult, 1 capsule 3 times daily. Take with a glass of water. Use for a minimum of 2 to 3 months to see beneficial effects.

Quebec researchers have identified a “kind” of vitamin that would prevent infection altogether.
Professor Nabil Seidah, laboratory director at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute, told Le Devoir newspaper that he “found quite unexpectedly” that swallowing a gram of L-carnitine every day “reduces the risk that the virus will infect”.
According to his team’s recently published study, when this molecule of L-carnitine (an animal by-product) enters human cells, it “significantly decreases the number of ACE2 receptors” on the surface of said cells. ACE2 receptors act as an entry point for the virus into our cells.
L-carnitine “enters the cell and asks the cell to synthesize less of this receptor”, explains Nabil Seidah. “[The molecule] decreases the number of surface receptors and decreases the risk of the virus infecting you. »
The logic of this study implies that this preventive remedy could apply to other coronaviruses, because “most coronaviruses have an ACE2, but this is not always the case”.
L-carnitine “is sold everywhere, in the aisle of organic products,” says Mr. Seidah.
