A Cleanse, or a Fast?
When spring comes, we usually have an urge to do some cleaning. Just as we do in our homes and in our yard, spring brings this desire to purify our own interior.
But what to do and how to do it?
And the first question could be “why do it”?
The reason is that we have usually consumed a little more consistently during the winter to keep warm. Not to mention the holiday season, dinners with family and friends, excesses, or simply because we feel tired. Digestion requires a lot of energy. Therefore there is less left to function well on a daily basis. That’s when it’s time to take care of our organs.
The purification of blood and the most important organs becomes a priority. And why choose spring? Because nature awakens and we see growth emerging everywhere. It is the same with Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring being the perfect time to purify our body.
A Cleanse
If you’ve never done a cleanse, take it slowly. Preferably, start with a “cleansing kit” that can be purchased from our Syner G Supplements online store. We recommend the following as they are rather simple and complete: the Herbal D-Tox cleanse from Wild Rose. It contains capsules and a tincture to clean the blood, kidneys, liver and colon. It is a complete cleanse of the urinary and intestinal tract. A diet is also proposed (included in the box). This cleanse lasts 12 days. Or there is Herbasanté’s Detox cleanse with vials consumed twice a day, that cleanse and drain the main organs of the body, stimulate the organs of filtration and elimination, deeply purify the immune system, helping to prevent possible diseases. Finally the Whole Body Cleanse from Pascoe. This combination identifies the importance of organ function and supports three detoxification organs; kidneys, lymphatic system, and liver. It’s a kit that lasts about a month.
To stay healthy or as a result of over-consumption, the detox program can be an integral part of your return to health. The cleanse is an ideal way to get rid of unwanted habits (too much sugar, coffee and other dietary excesses).
A Fast
If you opt for a fast, here is what I propose.
The first week: to make the descent from your regular diet, start by reducing your consumption of unwanted foods such as desserts, coffee, sweets, etc., and greatly increase your consumption of vegetables and fresh fruits. Choose vegetables that grow above the ground (lettuce of all kinds, kale, parsley, cucumber, etc.), and sprouts.
The second week: remove from your diet all grains, rice, pasta, bread, cereals, etc. as well as legumes; only seeds are allowed. It would be good to consume a therapeutic protein powder such as Ultra Clear PH or Ultra Clear Renew from Metagenics. This is not necessary, but strongly recommended.
The third week: remove fruits and seeds, keep freshly squeezed vegetable juices and raw vegetables. You can eat and juice sprouts. They are an integral part of the fast. Do this for a few days (I suggest 7 to 10 days). If you have already done a fast, you can choose to drink only water for one, two or three days.
The duration of the fast can be spread over 3 or 4 weeks. Fasting can also have a more limited duration. In this case, it is important to do the descent and ascent more quickly. Your choice.
Food recovery: to make the recovery, start eating fresh fruit (2 to 3 per day maximum), for 2 or 3 days. Then, seeds can be reintroduced and after a few days you can add the protein. As for grains, they must be consumed in small quantities (1/2 cup per day) and only occasionally.
Recommendations:
During the fasting period, detoxifying herbal teas such as artichoke, dandelion root, boldo, burdock, nettle or mixtures of herbs are preferred.
In case of constipation, take psyllium, 1 to 2 teaspoons per day. Keep drinking a lot of filtered, or spring water, because you should drink plenty of water during a fast, even if you drink juice and tea which are also liquids.
The most effective way to clean the various systems of your body is to do the descent and ascent slowly.
In addition, during the fast, it is recommended to reduce your activities, to rest, to remain calm especially when you only consume vegetable juices or water. Even reading can be an effort during a fast. You will resume your activities after the food recovery.
I have presented you with a simplified approach, but it is important that this whole process is personalized to your state of health, your discomforts and your needs.
Intermittent fasting
Some people choose to eat and drink for eight hours a day, and the rest of the time they only drink liquid. You can consume hot broths, teas and herbal teas, and some people choose to drink only water.
You can do this type of fasting for as long as you want. For example, it can be done for a month, or twice a year. It is also possible to do it when you want to lose weight or just to improve your health. The duration of your intermittent fasting will depend on your situation. Some people will do it for 30 to 40 days, others more or less in duration.
Another form of intermittent fasting is fasting with only water, or freshly squeezed vegetable juice and water one day a week.
I hope this article will enlighten you on with the different options and will make you aware that there are many ways to cleanse and lighten the burden on your organs.
The benefits of cleanses and fasts are immense: energy is boosted, weight is shed, and you can put an end to stomach pains, migraines, muscular pains, and so on.
